Mercury is not extremely useful in the world because of how toxic it is.. however, it is useful in some ways.
So how is this toxic, cautious element used in the world?
Although no proven dangers are linked to mercury fillings, the FDA is again evaluating safety amid vocal concern
Mercury is used to this very day to make dental amalgams, tooth fillings made with a mixture of mercury and zinc. Scientists agree that dental amalgam fillings leach mercury into the mouth, but studies report widely different amounts, which may or may not be sufficient to pose a significant risk to health.
Streetlights that contain Mercury.
Some Mercury is used in fluorescent lamps, streetlights that use mercury-vapor lamps, thermometers, barometers, and other scientific instruments. (Although banned in most developed regions/states) In fluorescent lights, mercury helps to be energy efficient by not being able to escape from the light bulb and escape into the environment.
Mercury dichloride
Of the many compounds Mercury can make, Mercury dichloride, or (II) is one of them. Mercury(II) was once used as a treatment to cure syphilis, which is a viral type of STD, but they stopped using it because of the mercury being too toxic. In addition, Mercury(II) chloride was used as a photographic intensifier to produce positive pictures in the 1800s.
