ENVIRONMENTAL impact
Three environmental pros for using Mercury.
Where is Mercury found?
The mineraloid is usually found in the ore cinnabar(Hgs) where is must go through a heating and condensing process to be obtained.
How?
Mercury is extracted from cinnabar by a process of heating and collecting the vapors. At high temperature, mercury cools down and turns into a liquid at room temperature. Since mercury is so dense, it is easy to get rid of impurities by filtering the top film of the liquid leaving mercury at its purest form.
When mercury makes a compound with oxygen it becomes mercury(II) oxide(forms the color red). However, it must be around 350 degrees Celcuis for this compound to react.
